The Sustainable Wedding Summit
Emma and I enjoyed a fantastic day yesterday celebrating commitment to sustainability in the wedding industry, at the Sustainable Wedding Summit. Michelle and Emma at the Sustainable Wedding Alliance organised an inspiring day full of talks and activities all about environmental and social sustainability. It felt momentous to be in a room full of industry professionals from cake makers to florists to venues, all passionate about creating beautiful weddings which tread more lightly on the environment.
The Summit was hosted at the stunning BMA House, in central London. The Great Hall felt a grand stage to host ambitious, inspiring conversation amongst purpose led businesses. We enjoyed lively panel discussions hosted by sustainability experts, topics ranging from reimagining the wedding industry, to decoding the Net Zero buzzword. We were left feeling enthused about the many ways we can reduce carbon emissions as an industry, which really are making a difference. It was strongly felt that weddings are a unique opportunity to champion sustainability, as a day when people can really live their values.
Inspiring Takeaways
After a delicious plant-based lunch, we got to work in smaller groups during workshops, discussing some challenges we can face, and sharing solutions. I enjoyed a session where we mapped out our journey to net zero and was surprised how much we could work out in just an hour about where we have got to and the actions we need to take. We are heading back to Cornwall with boosted enthusiasm and ideas, to continue on our sustainability journey. Our goal to be as sustainable as possible is always ongoing, and this day was a great opportunity to all pause and celebrate where we have come so far.
The Sustainable Wedding Awards
Following a quick change and a glass of prosecco, we were all looking forward to the Sustainable Wedding Awards evening ahead. Surrounded by so many inspiring businesses and individuals, we felt how all this creativity comes together to create magical celebrations. So it felt even more special to win the Sustainable Supply Chain Award!
Thank you to our supplier family
This award is a real celebration of the coming together of wonderful small businesses to create beautiful small weddings at Treseren. It is recognition of the local food, drink and crafts which make for special moments at Treseren, from Keynvor Candles to Quay Coffee Company. We feel so grateful to be part of a family of businesses in Cornwall, whose care for our environment and community shines through their business. Thank you to the wonderful local suppliers who create magical moments during small weddings. Their commitment to sustainability inspires us. Read here about the brilliant wedding day suppliers part of our Treseren family, from florists to chefs, who put sustainability at the heart of their business.
Since the first wedding, celebrating local talent and produce has been at Treseren’s heart, and we are always aiming to keep our sourcing as sustainable as possible. We are thrilled to have made some swaps over the last year with big savings in terms of food miles, waste, and carbon emissions, including making our own apple juice from the orchard, and swaps in the bar soon to be revealed…
Throughout the day and evening, it was great to have the chance to meet talented people in the industry from all over the country. Thank you so much to Krystal, who sponsored the Sustainable Supply Chain award. Their green web hosting is powered entirely by renewable electricity, highlighting how sustainability extends to every area of business! We also felt proud to be in good company with some other fantastic businesses from the Southwest, who share a sense of how lucky we are to enjoy our natural environments.
Thank you to Carla Thomas Photography for capturing some great photos during the awards evening.
