We were delighted to welcome many of the valued suppliers who have become part of the Treseren family over the years, to join our team for a special Conscious Connections event at Treseren. Led by Michelle Miles, Founder of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance, the event centred on sharing our challenges around sustainability and helping each other to find solutions, as well as sharing some triumphs and forward steps in everybody’s sustainability journey.
Treseren has worked with The Sustainable Wedding Alliance for nearly two years firstly as a member, going on to gain accreditation in 2024. Having attended the SWA Summit at BMA House in London for the last two years, it was wonderful to invite Michelle to Cornwall and host her workshop at Treseren so she could share ideas and inspiration with our wider network.
Splitting us into small groups, Michelle took us through a higher or lower carbon emissions card game. Focusing on everyday things such as car travel and computer usage, there were some surprises and some good conversations! We looked at actions we could take individually and, in our businesses, to make positive changes.
From Celebrants, cake-makers and photographers to florists and chefs, we are lucky to work with so many talented people who are like-minded in their approach to creating weddings that tread as lightly as possible on the planet. One of the sustainability champions in our own team, Lynne our Head of Housekeeping, bought in samples of her own home-made clothes washing liquid and washing up liquid. Made to recipes avoiding harsh chemicals, that are environmentally friendly, Lynne has already incorporated her home-made products into the cleaning of our main house and bed linen laundry, we are now trialling it for the kitchen and in-house laundry.
We were treated to a delicious, locally sourced lunch by fabulous cook and friend of Treseren, Angie Greenham and blessed with blue skies and Spring sunshine so we could dine al fresco and continue the conversations. It was just lovely to have proper time to catch up!
A big thanks goes to Andie and Phil, creators of fabulous photo booths for their business Flicksbox who set up their beautiful petite booth for the day. Tilley is an up-cycled gas lamp, read more about her eco credentials here. Great fun was had getting little groups of us together to enjoy the experience offered to wedding guests.
We had such a fabulous day connecting with our wider Treseren supplier family around the topic of sustainability and catching up with each other ahead of a busy season. We are looking forward to hosting our 2025 events and working together as a community to deliver beautiful weddings underpinned with a conscious, collective effort to strive to be as sustainable as possible.
