With sumptuous décor and vintage furniture, Loveday’s Cocktail Bar is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a celebratory drink, or begin a glamourous wedding reception with bespoke cocktails for your guests. Some of you may have been following this project along with us on Instagram and seen some of the progress in our previous blog post. We are delighted to now be able to share the full results of this dramatic room transformation with you all.
It is a wonderful honour to be the current custodians of Treseren, and we love sharing the house’s rich history with new visitors. We hope that Loveday’s Cocktail Bar will weave new history into the spirit of this special place, not just in the tangible objects and opulent decoration, but in the memories that are made here. Named after Loveday Champion who resided in the house in the 1840’s, centre stage in the room is a gallery wall, which captures moments in time that together create Treseren’s ‘spirit of place’ –
The evolving story of the Middleton’s who lived here from the 1830s to the 1850s, and the Champions captured by the 1841 census for Shepherds House. The work of Captains Middleton and Champion at East Wheal Rose Mine, from the discovery of significant lodes of silver and lead, to their efforts to save men in Cornwall’s worst Mining Disaster of 1846. We celebrate the memory of our very own, real-life Poldark along with today’s heartfelt vows, love and marriage celebrated within these walls.
Treseren translates from the Cornish / Gaelic as “homestead under the stars” and each couple that gets married here are part of the Spirit of Place. We light tomorrow with today from generations past, to generations to come who will enjoy this house.
‘For we all live under the same stars.’
We had great fun designing the décor for the cocktail bar, from the over-the-top gold leaf ceiling to the glass chandelier and the 1950’s reclaimed bar, we looked to the glitz and glamour of The Great Gatsby for inspiration. For the finishing touches, we worked with interior stylist Suzy Symons-Thomas, who chose the perfect pieces to complete the space – who knew a pineapple lamp could make all the difference!
When it came to choosing what to put on the menu, our inspirations were rooted in romantic tales of fortunes being made, of vibrant dinner parties and great love stories never told. To transform these romantic notions into a bespoke menu, we enlisted the help of mixology expert Alex from North Coast Wine.
We have so enjoyed welcoming couples and their guests to Loveday’s Cocktail Bar this year, from perfecting our cocktail making skills to discussing the great history of this beautiful house with the help of the gallery wall, the space has been the perfect addition to small wedding celebrations, and we cannot wait for the many more celebrations that are to take place within these walls.
