We all know that Cornwall is a great place to be in the summer months, but we’re ready to let you into a little secret – it’s pretty magical in the winter too. The quieter season provides the opportunity for a peaceful escape, with space to really immerse yourselves in the breathtaking scenery and rugged landscape that we are lucky enough to call home.
We’re excited to share this magic, so we’ve teamed up with Klys. Co to offer you the opportunity to enjoy a carefully curated Winter Weekend Retreat at Treseren and embrace the tranquillity of Cornwall in the quieter months.
‘Klys’ – translates as ‘cosy’ in Cornish – and our collaborative retreats are all about togetherness, comfort and enjoying a slower pace of life in a beautiful setting.
Whether it’s a special celebration or you simply want to spend some quality time with your very favourite people, enjoy exclusive use of your very own country house nestled in the Cornish countryside for a two-night bed, breakfast and dinner stay for up to 12 people.
Klys Co. are passionate about creating delicious food bursting with flavour, using seasonal Cornish produce, so you can enjoy the luxury of Treseren together with a fully hosted private chef experience. Slow down and switch off – cosy up by the fireplace or head out for a clifftop walk before feasting in style. Get involved in the kitchen with a cooking masterclass, or sip on cocktails while the expert is at work.
We recently held a launch event for this exciting collaboration and were delighted to be joined by Corinne Evans, Rose Cant from MumonMuddyLane, and Jaz from Cornish Rambler. It was also a special treat to be joined by Sarah from Lyra and Moth who took gorgeous photos of the day – it was lovely to be able to spend some slow time with Sarah as we are usually together on a busy Treseren wedding day!
Zoe from Klys Co. was the perfect host and began by welcoming everyone with warm mulled apple juice (from the Treseren orchard of course) and a delicious banana and pecan cake. We spent some time getting to know each other over canapes and coffees before exploring the house and gardens.
We always love welcoming new people to Treseren and sharing our story – from the rich mining history of the house to the creation of what Treseren is today – a place to celebrate and enjoy special time together with your very favourite people. Whilst we specialise in magical small weddings, we are always delighted to host different events, from special birthdays and anniversaries to craft workshops and teambuilding days.
Our weekend retreats will of course allow lots of time for relaxation, but we are very excited that Zoe from Klys Co. is also offering the option of choosing to enjoy a cookery masterclass. Zoe is an accomplished chef, with formal training from the Leiths School of Cookery, so it was a real treat to learn from her on the day as she taught us all how to make the perfect shortcrust pastry.
Our top takeaway tip was to use 2 knives to mix the butter and the flour rather than using your fingers – which helps keep the butter and flour cool.
After everyone had mastered the pastry, we enjoyed making our own individual sweet and savoury tarts, with colourful heritage carrots and apples from the Treseren orchard.
While the tarts were baking, it was time to visit Loveday’s Cocktail Bar to sample cocktails from our carefully curated list. We have spent lots of time researching the very best local spirits, from Rosemullion Rum to Colwith Farm Vodka and together with our homemade sugar syrups, this makes for some really great classic cocktails with a Cornish twist.
We all enjoyed sipping on our cocktails around the fireplace in the Sitting Room before the main event of the day – a seriously delicious feast created by Zoe…
Menu
Maple Bourbon braised beef
Spiced whole roasted cauliflower
Served with…
Leeks in a wine and thyme butter
Roasted beets and carrots with a toasted cumin vinaigrette
Crispy potato stacks
Roasted squash, fig and feta salad
Followed by…
Caramelised pear and mascarpone pavlova
In between hosting, Zoe had been quietly working away in the Treseren kitchen creating the most amazing spread, with flavourful and colourful dishes filing the table. Zoe had sourced the freshest local, seasonal ingredients to create this delicious feast and we are all delighted to get stuck in. Good company and amazing food – what a perfect way to end a really special day.
Treseren X Klys Co. retreat weekends are available on selected dates in Winter-Spring. We would love to share the magic of a slow Treseren weekend with you, so get in touch at hello@treseren.co.uk if you think it could be just what you need.
A special thank you to Rosemullion Distillery and Colwith Farm who kindly gifted miniatures for our goody bags, along with our homemade shortbread biscuits.
