Treseren Certified B Corp wedding venue

We’re delighted to share the wonderful news that Treseren is now officially a certified B Corp Wedding Venue. A B Corp, or B Corporation, is a business that has been certified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance. We are one of only a handful of wedding venues that have been B Corp certified, and we join a global movement of businesses for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. This is a huge step on our sustainability journey, as we have been through a rigorous assessment process to really delve into every aspect of our commitment to both people and planet.

B Corp certification is a celebration of our hard work and achievements so far, but it’s by no means the end of our journey. We’re always looking ahead and are excited to continue making responsible choices for a better future.

What is a B Corp?

‘Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.’ – B Lab

Formed in 2007, the B Corp Community is a global movement of companies that harness the power of business together with their commitment to people and the planet. In short, B Corps use business as a force for good.

Why B Corp?

Whilst sustainability has always been at the heart of Treseren, we are always striving to do better, and we felt that undergoing the B Corp certification process would really help us highlight areas where we are achieving our goals and areas that have room for improvement.
We are proud to have made positive progress on our sustainability journey, these are just some of the areas that we have focused on –

Treseren Rewilding

We have worked with Pollenize to plant 22 square metres of wildflowers in 4 different locations in the Treseren grounds, to encourage biodiversity while creating an environment for pollinators to thrive.
We now have 5 beehives with 150,000 honeybees, many of which were rescued from uninhabitable areas and are now thriving at Treseren.

Did you know? 56% of Britain’s species are in decline and 15% threatened with extinction. Yet in places where nature has been allowed to return, species are burgeoning. – Rewilding Britain

Treseren Decarbonisation Plan

With the help of Green Futures at The University of Exeter we have created a decarbonisation plan, looking to reduce our carbon emissions as much as possible concentrating on the three key areas below.

Scope 1 – on site fuel usage e.g. gas, oil or diesel
Scope 2 – energy usage e.g. electricity
Scope 3 – everything else e.g. commuting, waste supply chain

To address emissions in scope 1, we replaced an ancient boiler with a modern energy efficient system which has immediately reduced fuel usage.
In Scope 2, a 10% reduction in energy usage was initially achievable with some small changes such as turning fridges off during closed periods and air-drying laundry where possible. We are currently working towards a further 10% reduction by 2027.
We continually review our supply chain and our working practices to minimise emissions in Scope 3.
To ensure we are carbon literate and fully equipped to interpret information and data to help us collectively achieve our goals, our core team have attended the University of Exeter’s Carbon Literacy course.

Local Supply Chain

From the delicious seasonal food and drink we serve as part of wedding celebrations right down to the hand soap we use in our bathrooms, our supply chain celebrates the abundance of quality produce and creative minds in Cornwall. In making these choices, we lessen our carbon footprint whilst also supporting small independent Cornish businesses.

Where possible, we have also taken the opportunity to grow and make some produce at Treseren, eliminating food miles, packaging, and processing emissions. We are excited to build on our Treseren produce journey in the coming years.

We were delighted to win the award for the best Sustainable Supply Chain at the 2024 Sustainable Wedding Industry Awards

Sustainable Wedding Alliance

We are proud members of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance, becoming fully certified in February 2024. The Sustainable Wedding Alliance’s mission is to drive change in our industry, raising awareness and tackling climate change and attitudes, by proactively encouraging businesses to develop future thinking strategies and make responsible decisions. Our certification is a direct result of our commitment to environmental and social sustainability at Treseren and we strongly value this partnership. In 2025, we became the South West Ambassadors for The Sustainable Wedding Alliance.

The Sustainable Wedding Alliance Ambassadors are champions of sustainability, and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from across the industry.

‘Our dedicated team of Ambassadors are passionate about sustainable weddings and committed to making a positive impact on our planet. Based across the UK, they bring a wealth of local knowledge and expertise to our initiatives.’ – Michelle Miles, Sustainable Wedding Alliance Founder

People

People are at the heart of what we do, and as well as the love and care we give to all wedding couples and guests of Treseren, we recognise that the wellbeing of our team members is essential for success both inside and outside of the workplace. We are committed to creating an environment where all team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. Treseren pays all employees in excess of the real living wage and offers flexible working hours. We are proud to foster a work environment that champions the whole person, supporting both professional and personal growth.

Treseren plays an active part in our local community. In 2021, we sponsored a talented artist to create a memorial sculpture to commemorate the loss of 39 men and boys in the 1846 East Wheal Rose Mining Disaster. The sculpture is now installed near the site of the mine at Lappa Valley Railway and the history of the disaster encapsulated by the sculpture will be able to be viewed by visitors and generations to come.

Our intrinsic Treseren values of love, happiness and authenticity reflect the essence of what it means to be a B Corp – putting people and planet at the heart of what we do in our business.

What happens next?

Being a B Corp isn’t a one-time thing, as well as legally binding commitments to the environment and society, B Corp certified companies are continually re-assessed and are required to pass the re-certification process every 3 years. This ensures that B Corps are always held to account – continually monitoring their impact and trying to improve the way they do business, for the benefit of people and planet.
There are currently 9356 B Corps worldwide, with 3253 B Corps in the UK. B Corps come in all shapes and sizes, operate in more than 100 industries and can be found in every region of the UK. Cornwall’s B Corp community is growing rapidly with over 65 B Corps in the county across a diverse range of businesses covering nearly every sector.

We’re delighted to join this powerful community for change.

We welcome conversation surrounding making a positive impact on people and the planet, as sharing knowledge is the best way we can all improve. Please email our Sustainability Coordinator Charlie at charlie@treseren.co.uk if you would like to talk about Treseren’s sustainability journey.
