Just before we re-opened for 2021, Emma and Paul bought the Team together for a Training Day covering everything from Fire Safety and what to do in an emergency, to the really important matter of who we are, what we do and our core values.
We had such a fabulous day, that we want to share it with you!
Training Day in the Sunshine
The day started off with a warm welcome back from Emma accompanied by teas, coffees and catch up outside on the terrace with a lovely bit of Cornish sun. After introductions, Paul and Julian Whiting from Kernow Fire Consultancy refreshed us all in health and safety around the property, and fire safety to ensure we were all up to date in our knowledge for smooth running of events here at Treseren.
A delicious lunch was provided for us by Ali Pumfrey, a fantastic Leith’s trained chef. We all enjoyed her incredible spread featuring some of the new menu for our Welcome Meals. Ali has worked with Emma to design a wonderful menu for our guests to enjoy – we have all tasted the incredible seared beef and some of the salads and can confirm that our guests will be in for a treat when they arrive for their welcome meal.
Creating Our Values
Business Development Manager Katie Moore from Cornwall’s leading business support organisation, Unlocking Potential has been working with Treseren since we launched and continues to play a huge role in our growth as a small business. For our Training Day, Katie led a session on creating a list of 6 core values which we as a Team believe in and work to as part of our day to day.
We did not know how much fun it would be! To help us identify those mutual values that mean the most to us, Katie arranged a few creative activities for us to get stuck into.
In small groups our task was to think of Treseren as a superhero and decide if we were a superhero, what would we fight for – and just as importantly what we would fight against.
Then inspired by Emma’s history working on Blue Peter (she used to direct the live studios back in the early 2000’s!) we had to create our superhero showing all the things we would fight for using a variety of recycled materials. Junk modelling Blue Peter Tracey Island style!
Each team created a visual representation of the values that we believe Treseren stands for. We loved the wand for creating moments of Magic and sparkle, and one team’s inventive stress sheild, which was designed to keep stress away from our couples on their Big Day. Although it looked like a silly array of pipe cleaners and boxes, it was a great way to help us decide on what is important to us as a team looking after couples and their guests at this most special time of their lives.
We were all given a Blue Peter sticker for our efforts!
From our funny and friendly looking models, we agreed on six core values which we feel represent Treseren the best and what we work so hard to achieve as a team.
And here they are!!
Happiness:
From the beginning of the wedding planning journey all the way through to the celebration, happiness is at the heart of what we do. As a Team we support, and respect each other, we get on well and enjoy our time at work. So happiness in the venue, in the office and in all that we do means this creates a great team atmosphere and feeds back in to the atmosphere at Treseren. Everything we do is done with happiness to achieve happiness for all couples and guests.
Communication:
Communication is vital to achieve the smooth running of events and is present throughout every process and detail of our small weddings. Communication isn’t just needed between wedding planners and couples but it’s also essential throughout the Treseren team itself to make ideas a reality. Because each wedding is unique, our communication is important to make sure we achieve all the small details that we strive to ensure are right for our couples on the Big Day.
Love:
We’re all so proud to be part of the Treseren team and love what we do. We hope that the love and passion we have for our jobs is reflected in the way we look after our couples and guests. We strive for them to have the best day of their lives, full of love.
Empathy:
To understand and share feelings with all our guests and team members is at the very forefront of our values. We all do our very best to respect and make everyone feel welcome and comfortable here at Treseren. Our guests have chosen us to be part of such a special moment in their lives and we all feel such a great privilege in that, so we want them to have the best experience possible. To relax and feel Treseren is a home from home.
Excellence:
With the recent success of our double Gold awards as Wedding Venue of the Year and silver award for Tourism Innovation, it’s so great to see our hard work being recognised. From the cleaning team who make Treseren sparkle, to the kitchen team creating and serving delicious breakfasts and welcome meals, to organising and smoothly running the day itself, we try to complete every part of our work to the highest standards. Quality and excellence is our objective. We cannot always be perfect, but we can aim for perfection and try our best to achieve an incredible wedding and stay for our couples and their guests.
Authenticity:
We want to provide a genuine experience true to ourselves, what we represent as a team and the couples themselves. Being authentic is hugely important to us all as a Team.
Raising a glass to each other and all our Couples
The Training Day was a great opportunity for everyone to reconnect and bond after some time apart during lockdown, to build up an even stronger team relationship as well as to make sure that everyone will be on the same page, ready for the start of another successful season. There wasn’t a better way to finish off the day than by putting our new cocktail bar and training to the test by practicing (and tasting) our Treseren cocktails!
We raise our glasses to all of those couples coming to celebrate at Treseren this year, we cannot wait to welcome you.
