New shade sail canopy
We are really excited to share our news of the installation of a new shade sail canopy covering our terrace outside of the Wedding Room at Treseren. This gives us even more options for couples wanting to use our space as a beautiful outdoor wedding venue for both receptions and ceremonies!
The stunning, architectural sail was designed and made by local company, RB Sails based in Hayle. We really enjoyed working with Ian who came up with a practical and sensitive design to work with the proportions of the house and terrace. As Shepherds House is Grade II listed, it was important to create something that sat beautifully in the setting, as well as being sturdy and practical.
Design and Installation of the canopy
Once designed, the installation was really simple, with Paul and Ian installing the I bolts and post in a few days. Ian’s design works to protect the terrace from harsh sun and light rain and the large steel pole which anchors the design is removable in the winter / during high winds so we can ensure that the structure does not impact on the look of the house when the sail is taken down and stored away.
We were so excited to see it up after the weeks of planning and design!
Benefits to our Wedding Couples
The sail provides brilliant shade for hot summer days and cover from light rain showers enabling our couples getting married to utilise the terrace for both ceremonies and receptions for their guests.
It feels like a new outdoor room and increases the options and flexibility for couples getting married at Treseren to enable more space and flow on their special day.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies at Treseren under the Canopy
As the terrace and shade sail is immediately outside the French Doors to the Wedding Room, the canopy provides a focal point for an outdoor ceremony space. Because of the size of the terrace, it also means we can host slightly larger numbers for ceremonies, allowing seating for up to 30 guests.
Flowers can have a wonderful impact dressed from above the French Doors, or an arch or split arch around the doors creating a focal point for the service, with the couple getting married standing outdoors on the terrace for an outdoor flowing ceremony, or inside the wedding room with guests seated outdoors as preferred.
Working closely with Cornwall Registration Service
We have been working closely with Cornwall Registration Service who have just this year introduced the option for holding flowing ‘step in, step out’ ceremonies enabling couples to legally marry in an outdoor setting, stepping inside the licensed space for their legal, declaratory words and the signing of the register.
At the beginning of our season, we invited Arron, the Head of the Ceremonies Team from Cornwall Registration Service to Treseren to review our venue and the suitability for this type of ceremony. He loved the setting and with two sets of doors opening one way on to the terrace with covered canopy and the other way on to the gardens, he felt our venue was ideal to offer this new service to couples getting married at Treseren. We are one of the venues in Cornwall that is leading this new and exciting way of accommodating couples’ wishes to have their weddings in an outdoor setting of their choosing, whilst being able to legally marry.
We love the flexible and forward-thinking approach form Cornwall Registration Service and it has been brilliant working with them to help innovate these ceremonies in situ. The approach of the individual Registrars leading the ceremonies has been to create a really personal and flowing ceremony for each couple choosing this option.
Real Weddings and Receptions under the Canopy
The three weddings we hosted at Treseren in August were all blessed with beautiful sunshine, blue skies and very hot days. All our couples wanted to make the most of this summer weather; two opted for outdoor ceremonies under the shade sail canopy. Mike and Cathy had a wonderful, personal family wedding with a Poldark theme for their outfits. The children picked their flowers from the garden and arranged them in tall vases, everybody looked stunning and they had a perfect blue sky day. If you don’t already know about our Poldark history you can read all about it here!
Fran and Craig’s wedding was small and intimate, with just their children present and Emma and our team member Charlie as witnesses. We were honoured to be part of it and so enjoyed the ceremony under the shade sail canopy which felt just right on a beautiful summer day.
Our bride and groom Cherry and Emanuel opted for an outdoor flowing ceremony commencing under our beautiful walnut tree, with their ceremony flowing in to the Wedding Room to sign the register and then on out of the French Doors to a champagne reception on the terrace under the canopy.
We are so delighted we are able to accommodate these very individual and special ceremonies and receptions with our new shade sail canopy making the most beautiful outdoor setting for our couples.
We’ll share more images from these unique real weddings soon, and we just can’t wait to see more couples getting married at Treseren enjoying this beautiful new space!
