Having worked for many years in television production, and more recently on location fashion shoots, I know that no matter how much careful planning you do, no matter how brilliant your team, the one thing you cannot control is the weather. As the day for our planned styled shoot at Treseren grew closer, we watched the weather. With three days to go, we knew we were going to experience not just grey clouds and the odd spot of rain, but that torrential gales were heading across the Atlantic and were due to hit on the very day of our shoot! Our objective to showcase our elegant wedding venue at its best was being swept in to a perilous position.
The date was set in stone for our busy photographer, so our shot list full of dreamy, summery secret garden shots had to be shelved and instead we focused on showing off the interiors, the build up to a couple’s big day, and we got outside to shoot as and when we could!
Luckily, we did have a truly brilliant team. Our co-creator for the shoot, Fern Godfrey, bought all her wedding industry experience from her years as Editor of Rock My Wedding to the fore, as she co-ordinated and planned everything to the last detail. Fern brings a calm and clarity of vision, with inspiration for the most stylish wedding fashion and styling. Her choice of dress, a stunning one piece by Sassi Holford sourced at St Ives Bridal Rooms, looked beautiful on our model, Sophie and the delicate shoes from Emmy London completed an incredibly elegant look.
The shoot day started early with Marisa from Flowers with M arriving with her team to gather extra blooms and greenery from the gardens at Treseren to add to the beautifully balanced flowers and foliage already sourced. She built her incredible flower arch in the secluded garden in the wind and rain, and when we stepped out to photograph it in a small window of light, we were stunned by the beauty of what she and her team had created.
Our photographer, Joe Burford worked with the natural light available and shot some stunning images. Whilst they were not full of summer sunshine, something tells me that they are stronger as a collection with the striking shadows which capture an incredible mood. We love Joe. He has an incredible sense of humour and working style which makes everybody relaxed and happy! I can imagine he is brilliant on the morning of a wedding and would make the most nervous bride feel relaxed for those build up to the day precious photographs.
The relationship between photographer and make-up artist is so important to help get the look just right, and we were so pleased to work with the talented Ione who created two very beautiful looks for our bride that were both natural and subtly glamorous.
Matt and Sophie, our gorgeous models looked stunning. They were also absolute troupers, bringing such good energy to the shoot, even outside in the cold and howling wind!
Luckily we were able to feed everybody really well, including slices of wedding cake – the gorgeous three tiered creation for the shoot by Lara from Ladyvale Bakery tasted as good as it looked.
Fern’s instinctive and beautiful styling on the day bought everything together for the photographs. We were so happy to have worked with our brilliant team and hope you agree the images from the styled shoot which now grace the pages of our web site and our wedding brochures, were worth the time and energy everybody put in, and a day spent battling the elements.
For us, though, the shoot meant more than just beautiful images to showcase our small weddings at Treseren. It was about building relationships with fantastic partners who we are really excited to work with in the future. Everybody who worked on the shoot features on our favourite suppliers list, so we will be sharing their contacts with any couples who are interested in booking Treseren as their wedding venue in Cornwall.
