Due to the pandemic, many ‘destination weddings’ to far flung exotic locations had to be cancelled, postponed or re-planned. For many couples, this came with the realisation that they didn’t need to get on a plane for the destination wedding of their dreams – in fact, their dream location was right on their doorstep.

With scenery that has inspired artists for generations, its own microclimate and sparkling blue seas, Cornwall is arguably one of the most sought-after destinations for a UK based adventure – and the perfect location for a seriously special wedding. Your wedding celebration doesn’t have to be a one day only event, and whether you continue the celebrations as a group or head straight into honeymoon mode, Cornwall should definitely be on your radar.

Of course, when considering a destination wedding, guests travelling from all corners of the globe for a wedding celebration inevitably racks up a sizeable carbon footprint, so the environmental factors of opting to stay in the UK may also play a factor in your decision.

Why Cornwall?

Holywell Bay Twin Rocks

The Scenery

From sparkling seas and golden sands to rugged coastline and romantic moorland, the Cornish scenery will constantly surprise and delight – nowhere else in England will you find such a range of dramatic landscapes. The southwest coast path and secret wild swimming spots are perfect for the adventurer, whilst attractions such as Glendurgan and the Lost Gardens of Heligan make the most of the unique microclimate to showcase amazing flora and fauna.

The Food

Often referred to as a foodie haven, you can enjoy Michelin-starred dishes, prepared with fresh local ingredients eaten overlooking the water. For a more relaxed vibe, visit a cosy country pub or tuck into a freshly prepared Cornish cream tea. Of course, this passion for the finest produce and great eating experiences is reflected in the options available for the wedding day itself. For Treseren weddings, we work with talented local chefs who create the perfect dining experience for you and your guests – from relaxed wood fired outdoor dining to 7 course tasting menus.

The Culture

From immersive outdoor theatre to a plethora of art galleries, Cornwall is renowned for its art and culture scene. This creative spirit is reflected in the wider wedding community, with so many talented suppliers ready and waiting to make your big day perfect.

The Venue

Hidden away in a secret corner of Cornwall, Treseren is not your typical wedding venue. Specialising in small weddings that are big on style, couples choose our special location to say ‘I do’ in the company of their very closest loved ones, and immerse themselves in a bespoke wedding experience, enjoying fine dining, bespoke cocktails and luxury accommodation all under the magic of a Cornish sky.
With a two or three night stay, nothing has to be rushed, and you can spend quality time together, with the opportunity to explore Cornwall. Just 10 minutes from Holywell Bay, whose iconic twin rocks you may recognise from the lust-worthy Poldark series, an opportunity for a photoshoot on the beach on your wedding day is always a highlight, with breath taking scenery guaranteed.
With acres of sprawling lawns and sun-drenched terraces, our English country garden setting is an idyllic spot to while an afternoon away after a morning exploring, with croquet and table tennis for entertaining and an atmospheric firepit for toasting marshmallows under the stars as the evening draws in.

London based couple Jen and Nathan first stepped foot on Cornish soil when they arrived at Treseren in April 2021, the day before their wedding. Originally planning for an exotic beach ceremony in Mauritius, the ever-evolving travel restrictions meant plans would have to change, and so it was set that Cornwall would work its magic and become the perfect destination for this special couple to declare their love for one another.

‘From the moment you turn onto the drive you know it’s going to be a special place. Then you see the house and just “Wow”, it was everything we wanted and more and we had it ALL to ourselves’ – Jen

After saying ‘I do’, Jen and Nathan headed off to nearby Holywell Bay for a glass of celebratory champagne on the beach, before returning to Treseren to enjoy freshly cooked Cornish lobster and cocktails in Loveday’s Bar. Of course, Cornwall captured Jen and Nathan’s hearts, and they soon returned for another Cornish adventure, exploring the rugged coastline and making more memories in this magical county.

‘We are actually glad that we couldn’t get married in Mauritius now – we had the most magical time and we don’t think it would have been quite as special as Cornwall. The landscapes are just incredible.’ – Jen

‘Being in Cornwall we wanted to make sure we had delicious fresh local fish for our first meal together as husband and wife and with thanks to Chef AJ Turner we had the most amazing scallops and lobster. To have a private chef cook the most wonderful meal for just the two of us in this fabulous house was marvellous.’ – Jen

Jen’s advice to couples considering a destination wedding in Cornwall? ‘Don’t hesitate, honestly just do it. We literally couldn’t imagine a more perfect wedding than we had and that is mostly down to Cornwall and Treseren. The landscapes are both stunning and dramatic, there are beaches and cliffs and you can get to them all within 15 minutes! We had the most stunning photos out and about as well as in the gorgeous house & gardens of Treseren. You have such amazing local suppliers, produce & services available to you and it literally feels like you’re dealing with friends. People say that weddings can be one of the most stressful experiences, let me tell you something…it doesn’t have to be that way!’
