The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Small Wedding in Cornwall (With Realistic Costs & Real Wedding Inspiration)

By 21 April 2026 No Comments

Planning a small wedding in Cornwall? You’re not alone. More couples than ever are choosing intimate celebrations with their closest people—focusing less on scale, and more on meaning.

This guide walks you through exactly how to start planning a small wedding in Cornwall, including realistic costs and real wedding inspiration. As an award-winning small wedding venue, we’ve hosted countless magical small wedding celebrations at our exclusive country house in Cornwall and we have learnt exactly what works (and what doesn’t).

What Is a Small Wedding?

In the UK, a “small wedding” typically means anywhere from 2 to around 30 guests. At Treseren, we host small weddings for up to 22 people.
It might be:

• Just the two of you (An Elopement)

• Immediate family only (A Treseren Micro Wedding)

• Family plus a handful of your closest friends (A Treseren Intimate Wedding)

What defines it isn’t just the number—it’s the atmosphere. Small weddings always feel more relaxed, more personal, and far less rushed than traditional large celebrations.

Why Choose Cornwall for an Intimate Wedding?

Cornwall has a unique appeal for smaller weddings. It offers that “destination wedding” feeling—without leaving the UK, which makes it a more sustainable option and also easier on logistics for you and your guests.

Think dramatic coastlines and quiet countryside. For smaller groups, Cornwall is also the perfect destination for a full wedding experience rather than just a single day.

We offer weekend long wedding celebrations at Treseren, which create an environment to spend real quality time with your very favourite people, with an entire day after the wedding to explore our magical location. It’s hard to resist staying on in Cornwall after the wedding weekend, and there are a number of boutique hotels and holiday cottages nearby that serve as the perfect base for more adventures.

How Much Does a Small Wedding Cost in Cornwall?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that small weddings are always cheap. They can be more affordable—but more importantly, they let you spend your budget intentionally.

Here’s a realistic breakdown for a UK small wedding:

Venue & Accommodation
£2,750 – £9,250
(Depending on length of stay, and guest capacity)

Food and Drink
£500 – £2,500
(Private dining, canapes and a 3-course meal)

Photography
£900 – £2000

Flowers
£200 – £1,500

Ceremony Costs
£800
(Registrar or celebrant)

Total Typical Budget
£5,000 – £15,000

The key difference? Instead of stretching your budget across 100+ guests, you can prioritise what really matters to you.

What to Look for in a Small Wedding Venue

Not all venues are designed with intimate weddings in mind. Here’s what makes a real difference:

Exclusive Use
Having the space entirely to yourselves creates a much more relaxed atmosphere. At Treseren, we deliver a unique blend of 5-star service in a home from home atmosphere, with exclusive use of the entire house and gardens for the duration of your wedding celebrations.

On-Site Accommodation
Keeping everyone in one place turns your wedding into a shared experience and allows for more quality time together without having to travel between locations.

Flexible Spaces
Look for venues that work in all weather, with both indoor and outdoor options. You need to love Plan B as much as you love Plan A!

A Natural Setting
The right backdrop reduces the need for heavy styling or décor, like the Georgian architecture and stylish interiors at Treseren.

Expert Guidance
Choosing to have a small wedding should automatically be less stressful than a larger celebration, but choosing a venue with expert hosts who will help plan and coordinate your day will make all the difference.

A Real Example of a Small Wedding

Natalie and Elliott celebrated at Treseren with 18 of their closest loved ones – not forgetting their beloved family dog Phoebe. Arriving on Friday afternoon to homemade cake on the sunshine-bathed terrace, everyone settled into their rooms before enjoying a convivial welcome feast of sharing platters made from seasonal Cornish ingredients.

The overnight guests enjoyed a hearty homecooked breakfast the following morning, before the bridal party disappeared upstairs for hair and make-up and the Treseren team set everything up for a quintessential English country garden wedding.
The couple chose to say ‘I do’ under our 200 year old walnut tree, and the dappled August light created the most beautiful atmosphere under the natural canopy of the trees branches. Phoebe was on her best behaviour and delivered the rings on her floral collar, to conclude a very special and personal ceremony delivered by Sherwood from the Cornwall Registrar Team. After the ceremony the garden party could commence, with croquet and table tennis on the lawn and cocktails and canapes in full swing in the Cornish sunshine.

Natalie and Elliott savoured some time away from their guests to capture beautiful portraits with their photographer at Holywell Bay, our breathtaking local beach just minutes from Treseren. Twinkling festoon lights and locally grown flowers set the scene for an opulent outdoor dining experience to finish a magical day.

The following day, everyone enjoyed a relaxed lazy breakfast before heading out to the beach and returning for a woodfired feast in the gardens, making the most of their final evening together.

No rushing. No strict schedules. Just quality time together.
This is what draws so many couples to smaller weddings—it feels less like a production, and more like something genuinely personal.

FAQs About Small Weddings

Is a small wedding cheaper in the UK?
It can be—but more importantly, it’s more flexible. You can spend where it matters most to you.
Can you legally marry at a small venue?
Yes, as long as the venue is licensed for legal ceremonies. At Treseren, we have a number of indoor and outdoor licensed spaces, so your entire wedding celebration can take place in one location.
How many guests is considered “intimate”?
Typically under 30. Look for a venue that specialises in hosting small weddings rather than a venue that also hosts large weddings. This will mean that the size of your wedding will feel ‘just right’ in the space, and you won’t need to worry about filling large rooms.
Can you make it a weekend wedding?
Absolutely. In fact, this is one of the biggest advantages—turning your wedding into a multi-day experience.
