At Treseren, sustainability has always been an important pillar in everything we do and we are of course aware that a small wedding by its very nature is going to have less impact on the environment. At the start of 2024, we were proud to become a fully certified venue with the Sustainable Wedding Alliance. To celebrate this milestone, and the wonderful world of sustainable wedding suppliers that we are lucky enough to work with, we put together an editorial photoshoot at Treseren to showcase just how possible it is to have a sustainable and stylish wedding.
We worked with two amazing independent British bridal brands who are combining design and sustainability to shine a spotlight on the pathway to a new breed of bridalwear. This sweeping floor length gown is the ‘Monroe’ by E & W Couture, who design and make all of their pieces in Cardiff. With a background in vintage fashion, founder Sophie has always had sustainability as a key focus as her brand has grown.
‘We love to talk about our dedication to sustainability and ethics and we pride ourselves on how open and honest we are about each part of our business. We always say if you can’t find an answer to what you’re looking for from a brand, chances are they don’t want you to know it. We’re so proud to use such a huge range or recycled and oeko-tex fabrics through our ranges. Some of our dresses are even 100% recycled which is unheard of in bridal!’ Sophie, E and W Couture
For the evening look, the Daphne Mini from Medusa London added the perfect injection of fun for the champagne tower and cocktails in Loveday’s. Highly commended in the Marie Claire 2023 Sustainability Awards, Medusa London create their modern gowns with 100% GOTS certified organic peace silk and incorporate recycled materials where possible, including their zippers which are made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles (1 bottle = 3 zippers).
‘At Medusa, we believe that fashion and sustainability can coexist. Our commitment to using sustainable materials and practices is unwavering, and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to minimize our impact on the environment. We care about our products, and we care about the people who make them.’ Agnese, Medusa London
The groom’s smart velvet tuxe was loaned from Cornwall Suit Room, Cornwall’s leading menswear company. The shop is a secret treasure trove of stylish options and we had great fun choosing! Renting your wedding outfit is a really positive option when it comes to making a sustainable choice, particularly if you know that you are unlikely to wear your outfit again. Both of the dress designers featured also work with P.S Bridal, a luxury bridalwear rental brand who have sustainability at their heart.
Eco silver wedding rings by Hannah Batstone and statement earrings with upcycled vintage pearl drops by Hattie Wragg were the perfect accessories, with a delicately crafted honesty crown adding a touch of drama to the minimal aesthetic.
‘Each of my pieces are handcrafted with a strong emphasis on bespoke design and quality craftsmanship. Inspired by the Cornish landscape, I use traditional goldsmithing and gem setting techniques using 100% recycled precious metals’ Hannah Batstone
Sarah from The Cornish Cakery created an elegant monochrome wedding cake that took centre stage in the Drawing Room, whilst Emily from Three Acre Blooms expertly added her delicate yet wild floral style with Cornish anemones, blossom branches and dried flower accents.
Emily’s flower field is just a 10 minute drive from Treseren, and we are always delighted to learn what has bloomed throughout the seasons and share in the excitement of how every wedding is so unique.
‘By using flowers grown here at Three Acre, in such close proximity to Treseren, I can ensure that I’m focussing on seasonality and sustainability while ensuring that, as nature intended, the flowers are at their best. We use no dig methods in our growing, and the land around it we don’t cultivate. We don’t use any machinery – it’s very much wild and left alone. It can look a bit untidy but it’s the best for pollinators’ – Emily, Three Acre Blooms
The minimal tablescape continued the refined theme, with our vintage glasses and candleholders adding a real touch of luxury. One of our favourite ways of being environmentally conscious as a wedding venue is celebrating vintage and antique items and we absolutely love scouring Cornwall for the best finds to share with Treseren couples.
A champagne tower is always a fabulous ‘moment’ on a Treseren wedding day, and of course the sustainable option is obvious – it has to be Camel Valley Brut, an award-winning Cornish traditional method sparkling wine which closely rivals top quality Champagnes. Of course, the menu in Loveday’s Bar has been carefully considered and features predominantly Cornish brands alongside our homemade sugar syrups and homegrown herbs. An Espresso Martini or two may have also been enjoyed on the day!
